What is walk and talk therapy?

Instead of meeting clients in the therapy room, I meet the client in nature. As the name suggests we simply walk and talk, walking side by side, it is much less intimidating and helps the client feel at ease instantly. We walk in a public park on a well planned route. We will meet up online first to make sure we are both suited to each other.

Sometimes it is hard to talk to family and friends and you just need that one person who holds space for you to be heard and understood with no judgments.

Moving in nature , connecting and healing this is a very powerful process. Then we walk we are in the flow and relaxed enough to talk, being in nature has a positive effect on your mental health, paring that with talking is a very positive experience it also enhances your physical well being too.

So it’s a win win win situation.

Where are you doing your WALK & TALK therapy?

We arrange a safe place to meet, generally in and around the Norfolk coast, there are plenty of convenient beautiful places to walk. You can choose your location from what is on offer. I will talk to you about this on your initial consultation (online). This will happen before the walk to ensure this is the right treatment for you and I am the right person for you to work with.

The session takes place in all weather conditions unless there are issues then they can be arranged indoors. You lead the pace, walking side by side is much less intimidating than the therapy room. It can be combined with email, telephone and online communication.

How do you negotiate other people when walking?

Whether in a park or at the beach there are many people that  are walking and talking is a very common sight. A client and therapist will not look any different. If you want to go to a quieter place where there is less people around I can always arrange that too, I know of very many beautiful locations to walk where not many tourists go.

Is walk and talk therapy right for me?

This is an opportunity to reduce stress, relieve body tension, improve circulation, and over all wellbeing. These sessions can help you decrease anxiety, regulate mood, enjoy more restful sleep and more. Additionally you receive all the benefits of exercise, mindfulness and fresh air.

Walking and talking therapies are ideal for you if you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, frustrated, anxious or out of sorts. You maybe just feeling low, or constantly worried about your health or the health of others.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness has been a major part of my healing or what I call my wellness journey, it enabled be to clear out hurt and pain that I was holding on to and make space for new to enter my life. Holding on to pain blocks the energy flow in your body, when you begin to forgive you will feel a shift in your energy, a release allowing you to move forward. If you hold on to the pain it will only cause dis-ease in the body. Holding on to it can make you feel heavy and tired, when you do this work and feel that senes of lightness and ease, in turn this gives you a surge of energy to move forward.

How to forgive:

Forgiveness happens with in, forgiveness is a process first start by thinking about who has hurt you, who has caused you pain, there might be circumstances not people, you may want to forgive your self. So you can forgive a person, an event, a broken relationship, a lost dream things not turning out the way you expected them to. Self forgiveness is a great start.

I found writing a letter to the person, a letter you don’t need to post, I write down what it is they have done to cause me pain or hurt then I thank them for what they did then write how much I forgive them. Just doing this without even sending it is powerful stuff. Then you can find more things in your life to for give and allow it all to poor out, by writing it down it allows you to process and let go. People don’t need to know that you have forgiven them for this to me effective. Also its a good thing to know you don’t have to forget because the key here is the forgiveness part.

If it feels good you can shred the written forgiveness letters of burn them and let them go.

I often revisit forgiveness, I have found this to be a very powerful exercise to do every so often. We can spend so much of our precious energy being mad or angry at situations, events, and people so by visiting this regularly its easier and sometimes you can just whisper it to yourself during meditation or before you go to sleep at night.

Have you done a forgiveness letter or a forgiveness journal. Why not share your experience in the comments, did it help? did it shift your energy? Have you felt the release? What happened for you? Did anything surprise you? Please comment and share this if you have got some value from this and you know someone who might need to see this too.

Thank you for taking the time to read this I appreciate you being here, big love and blessings. Toni x

I am here to support you when you most need it. Please get in touch and reach out when you need to.

This year has been a year of much learning and understanding, so many challenges for all, an emotional rollercoaster at times. So much division in opinions and beliefs. I have learned so much that I am grateful for. Deep down I found my resilience I hope you found yours. I have made new friends and soul family, despite the conditions, I have had fun and enjoyed the precious moments, built long lasting memories, found gratitude in my surroundings, re connected with nature. Enjoyed making memories. Got clarity of what I want, where I want, with who I want. This year my tribe grew, closer, stronger, more resilient, tighter, deeper connected. This year we put Love over Fear and may we continue to do so over the next year. 2021 May we all unite and dissolve our differences. May we all learn together, continue to support one another. May we have deep compassion for every living thing, may we have gratitude for all that we have. May we all be blessed with an abundance of health and well being.Thank you for being there with me, much love to you all. Big love Toni xxxx

How to release negative feelings

Dealing with difficult times. Life has changed so much for all of us, we have been through so much in the year of 2020,  almost a year of uncertainty and rapidly changing times. A lot of people working from home, some have no work as an outcome of this pandemic. So many different circumstances from loneliness, isolation economic loss and health issues. It has been a real test for all of us we can find ourselves struggling with stress. You may not feel like being ……..

..motivated about life or even thinking about what the future holds. More and more people are feeling tired of the situation and feel they can’t focus and find themselves procrastinating and the days are flying by. This is completely understandable and I would say quite normal. When anyone goes through a life changing situation there are a lot of emotions to be processed, feelings of sadness and grief can really make it a rollercoaster of a journey. I just want you to know if you are feeling this way, please know you are not alone. I am in contact with many clients that are going through the same motions, of tiredness, grief, frustration, anger and sadness to name just a few. We are all energetic beings and sensitive souls, some of us feel other peoples emotions too. Emotions are energy in motion. When you feel like you are at the negative end of the emotional scale, allow this to be, give yourself time to process, sit with the emotion, take some time out. It’s ok not to be ok. Once you have processed the feelings you will feel lighter. Below is a way to process negative emotions.

Feel better

How to process negative feelings and emotions.

  • Firstly its ok to have negative emotion, because it’s the contrast, without it we wouldn’t know what it was to feel positive and to know how we want to feel.
  • So sit quiet and ask yourself what one word explains my emotion, it might be tired, frustration, anger or sadness, it is normally the first word which comes to mind. Try naming that feeling.
  • Allow yourself to feel the way you do, sit with it.
  • Now you may feel you want to blame something outside yourself for feeling this way, a person or a situation. Do your best not to, but know it is perfectly natural to want to do this.
  • Accept  your emotion and take ownership of it. Allow yourself to know this is perfectly natural and understandable. Allow it to be there and take responsibility for it, now you are processing it. This is brilliant the more you can be comfortable with your negative emotions the easier it becomes to navigate your way through them and the stronger you become you are built with great resilience.

It’s good to be grateful for the emotion that came up, you can even thank the emotion for being there this gives a new perspective of that emotion which allows you to transcend it. After this you then you can choose the emotion you want to feel. This puts you in the driving seat of your internal ‘satnav.’ You have the power to change your thoughts, the more you become the observer of your thoughts and learn to process them the more resilient you become.

Other ways to help you process emotional feelings.

  • Take a walk in nature
  • Any form of exercise is good
  • Treat yourself to a long soak in the bath with some lavender scents.
  • Spend some time having fun with children or animals.
  • Get creative or spend sometime doing something you are passionate about.
  • Meditate
  • Breath work
  • Talk to someone

Things to try and avoid:

  • Alcohol  or other means of escape
  • Bottling up your feelings
  • Holding on to your negative feelings
  • Snack foods
  • Getting in conflict
  • Maybe social media just temporary

Where do the negative emotions come from?

Well we have 70,000 to 120,000 thoughts in a day, just in the minute you have had 300 thoughts.

You can’t stop your thoughts they happen with or with out you. Most of these thoughts are habitual, the same thoughts day in day out. The thing is the thoughts in your head are not you, it’s all the information you have gathered over your years on this earth.

The very thoughts we have turn into emotions as we begin to feel our thoughts. The same for positive emotions we have like, joy, passion excitement. We first have a thought then that translates into a feeling. That feeling gives us a reaction in our body. I’m sure you remember getting excited about an event or nervous about a situation and those feelings that happen. Your brain doesn’t know the difference between a thought or something happening in realtime. Know that you can choose what thoughts you want to think. You really do have the power over your emotions and reactions.

 Conclusion

We need both negative and positive emotions.

Some positive emotions;

  • Love
  • Happiness
  • Joy
  • Passion
  • Excitement
  • Satisfaction

  Common negative emotions;

  • Frustration
  • Fear
  • Anger
  • Annoyance
  • Loneness
  • Sadness

Looking at the negative emotions, are these emotions or feelings you want to feel? Probably not, why would you? They don’t feel good. The positive emotions are more preferable of course and we need these to thrive in the world.

Although the negative emotions do not feel good we do need the contrast to feel the good emotions, with out them would the positive emotions still feel good?

Negative emotions are there for our own survival  they help us grow and evolve.

For example fear serves us to protect us from danger. With out it where would you be? You might put yourself at risk of harm.

What happens if we do not deal with our negative emotions?

Over time the emotions will build up as energy stored in your body and this could lead to illness (headaches, migraines, depression, stomach problems,) mental exhaustion can lead to breakdown.

I like to metaphorically describe it as the messy draw in the kitchen. Nearly everyone has got one of those draws with all sorts of bits and pieces. Imagine your thoughts and emotions that are not dealt with you keep just shoving them in the messy draw, because you don’t have the time to deal with them, and something else happens. Over time you keep popping things in your messy draw it becomes heavy and almost bursting at the seams. You might go to open the draw one day and the front falls off or it falls apart and all the stuff comes flying out and explodes all over the kitchen floor. Thats why it is important to deal with them as and when they arise. Over time you become more clearer and able to release negative thoughts easier and easier. It becomes a natural response.

What have negative emotions have you been holding onto?

Do you think you can sit with your emotions and process them?

Have you got any ideas you wish to share, which has helped you?
